The Physiotherapy Department at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has launched its ‘Physiotherapy Online Exercise Programme’ to mark Qatar National Sport Day.
The new website, which is hosted at www.hamad.qa, features 609 videos for patients and will continue to expand to reach 1,500 videos.
The website is intended to enhance the patient experience and enable them to access exercise information in a safe and convenient manner, helping their journey to recovery.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the online consultation and telerehabilitation service was well utilised by the Physiotherapy Department of HMC. As an initial response, telephone consultations were started, progressing gradually to video consultations.
The challenges to communicate and yet maintain social distancing led the Physiotherapy Department to look for innovative solutions, leading to the development of a large database of online exercise programmes to enable patients to use them through a secure channel, maintaining patient confidentiality and keeping in consideration the safety of the patients.
After an evaluation by the physiotherapist either in person or online, the therapist will develop a treatment plan based on the problems of the patient. If the patient can be advised to perform a home programme, the physiotherapist will choose the right exercises from the online exercise programme and will send an SMS and email to the patient.
These will have a password to login into the exercise portal and access the exercises programme through the patient’s mobile or on any digital device. At the same time, the physiotherapist will be able to track the patient’s performance. This is a safe and convenient way for patients to continue their treatment at home and engage the patient in their recovery which leads to better outcomes.
This programme will be available only for patients who are being treated in the physiotherapy clinics in the various facilities of HMC.
The unique aspect of this entire website is that the entire conceptualisation of the idea, video shooting, script of the exercises, models for the shoot, camera shooting, editing, branding, developing website content was undertaken by the multitalented team of physiotherapists. They were supported and guided by the dynamic supervisors of various facilities led by Chief Noora al Mudahka.
The feat of launching the Physiotherapy Online Exercise Programme would not have been possible without the support from the Corporate Communications, web and digital services led by Ali Al Khater, chief of HMC’s Corporate Communications Department. Their timely cooperation and support instilled confidence to keep the hard work going on. The responsiveness of his team in setting up this website is appreciated by the leaders of the Physiotherapy Department.
