Virtual sports sessions catering to all people in Qatar including women, persons with disabilities and children are among the various activities taking place on Tuesday on the occasion of Qatar National Sports Day (QNSD).
The events focusing on inclusive, ability-friendly virtual sessions are organised by Qatar Foundation (QF) in partnership with Qatar Museums and the US Embassy in Doha in celebration of the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture.
In a statement on the initiative issued on Monday, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Qatar Ambassador HE Greta C Holtz said, “The US Embassy in Qatar congratulates the Government, people, and residents of Qatar for their dedication to healthy lifestyles, women’s empowerment, inclusivity and accessibility in sports. The United States is proud to be Qatar’s partner in promoting these objectives during this year’s 2021 Qatar-USA Year of Culture and beyond. This year, in adherence to Ministry of Public Health-placed measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the US Embassy is partnering with the Qatar Foundation, Qatar Museums and Best Buddies to provide inclusive virtual sports sessions during Qatar National Sports Day for all people in Qatar, including women, persons with disabilities and children. We invite everyone to follow US Embassy Doha’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as yearsofculture.qa for updates on upcoming COVID-19-safe Years of Culture programming.”
The QNSD activities include Fun Activities with Best Buddies, an organisation dedicated to ensuring inclusivity for people with developmental challenges, which are accessible to those aged five years and above with mobility and hearing impairments and learning challenges scheduled at 11am. At 4pm, top US gym Dogpound will lead a fun fitness activity called Puppypound for children aged four to12 years and a full-body workout at 5pm.
Registration is open for the series of activities via the Education City App, which can be downloaded for free from Google PlayStore and the Apple App Store.
