Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Qatar Shell have launched the 9th season of Koora Time, the sustainable initiative that has improved the health and well-being of more than 150,000 youths across Qatar since its inception in 2012.
A fully virtual programme has been designed for the new season to accommodate for the COVID-19 safety measures.
Koora Time is also introducing an online training platform, Koora Time’s Coaches Zone, which will train the coaches from anywhere in the world by offering courses and tests, tracking their performance and analysing their results.
In season 9, Koora Time aims to provide 44 hours of physical activity and education per child through football over the 11-week season, as well as education on healthy habits such as nutrition. The newly refreshed methodology has been developed in collaboration with the initiative’s partners Aspire Academy and FC Barcelona Foundation. The methodology will include improved football skills and drills, in addition to the newly added self-development programme and sports ethics.
In recognition of its positive impact on the health of youth, Koora Time has won local and international awards. Last year, Koora Time won the Silver Award at the Corporate Engagement Awards, bringing the total number of awards to 13 since its inception.
In season 8, Koora Time averaged 3,500 participants weekly. As many as 53 percent of Koora Time participants were girls, reflecting the positive role of women in sport and further supporting female empowerment in Qatar. Koora Time also introduced a virtual football challenge to stimulate a healthy lifestyle during the COVID-19 and to conclude the season.
