Hundreds of millions of children are out of school all over the world, and hundreds of millions of children and adolescents cannot read and write. In addition, there are troubling figures released by the United Nations on the International Day of Education, which takes place on January 24 each year. As Qatar Charity (QC) believes in the effective role of education in improving people’s lives and eliminating ignorance and illiteracy, it attaches great importance to educational and cultural projects that are being implemented in different countries around the globe.
Qatar Charity’s education sector projects include development and relief projects.
Right to Education
Qatar Charity has implemented more than 900 education projects worldwide, benefiting 177,000 students in 2020. Hundreds of educational projects have been launched to provide equal educational opportunities for all, to build new educational facilities and to restore the damaged ones. Qatar Charity is also working to raise awareness of the importance of the right of the underprivileged to education, in addition to supporting and training teachers and improving their standard of living.
Supporting Education in Qatar
As Qatar Charity is eager to contribute to the implementation of the Qatar National Vision 2030 in the social, economic and cultural spheres, it has extended educational support to orphans and children from low-income families as part of the “Charity Starts at Home” initiative. The assistance covered a number of expenses, such as school fees, uniforms, school bags and transport costs, and others, which benefited thousands of students in 2020.
Qatar Charity has made it possible for companies and various entities within the country to support students in their social responsibility. As part of its “Teach Me” initiative, at the beginning of the academic year, Qatar Charity distributed school uniforms to orphaned students, benefiting hundreds of students.
Education for All
Qatar Charity has established a number of multi-service centers in a number of countries, including Sudan, Somalia and Bangladesh. These centers have schools and all educational facilities. Qatar Charity has recently opened a multi-service center in Kyrgyzstan. The centre is aimed at more than 18,000 people from orphan families and residents of the surrounding area. It’s about a school.
Qatar Charity is also sponsoring 4,032 students and 2,919 teachers to provide them with all the favorable conditions.
Education in
Crisis-Hit areas
Qatar Charity works in the field of education in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe, focusing on the crisis-hit areas where Qatar Charity is working to protect education in the face of challenging situations. Qatar Charity works on the establishment, furnishing and repair of educational institutions, the provision of school bags, textbooks and school fees, and the provision of e-learning services to ensure quality education for all. Over the last five years, the total beneficiaries of Qatar Charity’s education projects for Syrian displaced persons and refugees have reached more than 1.2 million children.
Qatar Charity has provided caravans equipped with school benches, air conditioners, writing boards, heaters, fire extinguishers and first aid kits for 2,500 children directly.
Textbooks
Qatar Charity, with the support of the Qatar Development Fund (QFFD), has printed textbooks for primary, preparatory and secondary school students in northern Syria. These textbooks have been distributed free of charge to all students in northern Syria, estimated at almost half a million. In response to the growing demand for textbooks, during the 2020-2021 academic year, Qatar Charity published and distributed 4,123,308 textbooks. The distribution of the textbooks took place at the end of 2020 in the Idlib governorate and the western Aleppo countryside in the northwest of Syria.
International
partnerships
Qatar Charity has joined several international initiatives to serve education in crisis situations, in particular the QUEST initiative sponsored by the Qatar Development Fund (QFFD).
It is a Qatari initiative that seeks to provide education and training to nearly 400 thousand Syrian people in Syria and Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey. The total amount of the initiative is more than USD 100 million.
World Refugee School
Qatar Charity has also contributed to the World Refugee School initiative as a founding member of its Global Board of Directors, aimed at providing quality education to refugees and displaced persons around the world. Qatar Charity has entered into several agreements with international organisations to protect education in crisis-hit areas, including an agreement with UNICEF in Somalia to build and rehabilitate 10 schools, meet the needs of 60 schools and train teachers.
