Fahad Badar, Qatar’s high-altitude climber and adventure-seeker, keeps challenging himself after every mountaineering expedition by becoming the first Arab to climb Everest and Lhotse in a single trip, reached the summit of Ama Dablam on January 14, 2021.
Fahad had observed all the necessary precautions and measures to accomplish a remarkable feat in Ama Dablam, Nepal, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Winter expeditions are a real challenge for any mountaineer who wants to break the limits. Despite the pandemic and its regulations, Ama Dablam is one of the perfect destinations to achieve such a feat, requiring technical knowledge and endurance under harsh conditions.
“I was looking forward to the summit of Ama Dablam. It’s been a long time since I was away from the mountains, and I need to go back to the place where I feel the most alive,” Fahad said. He also mentioned how important it was to train his mind during all those months when the expeditions were canceled due to COVID-19.
Ama Dablam, which translates into ‘Mother’s necklace’, is a life-changing ascent. Located in the Himalayas of Nepal, Ama Dablam is a daunting height of 6.856 metres. It is a popular mountaineering destination for experienced mountaineers, not only because of its incredible natural appeal, but also because of the exciting challenges that accompany the climb.
Due to its immense altitude and geographical location, Ama Dablam can only be climbed at two points in the year: from April to May or from September to October. But Fahad was looking for more challenges and began his expedition in December 2020. What’s so special about Ama Dablam in the winter? Apart from the exciting snow, ice and rock climbing routes, the expedition itself has a higher level of difficulty due to the season itself. And it’s one of the most technical and challenging climbs on Earth.
All of these conditions have tested Fahad’s abilities and resilience, providing fundamental experiences that will be useful in his upcoming trips.
