The death toll from a 6.2-magnitude earthquake that shook Indonesia’s West Sulawesi province rose to 84 on Monday, the national disaster management agency said.
At least 73 of those killed in Friday’s quake were in the badly-hit provincial capital Mamuju, while the other 11 were in the neighbouring district of Majene, the agency said.
The disaster agency said nearly 20,000 people were displaced.
Agency spokesman Raditya Jati said that electricity had been restored in much of the quake-hit areas and roads that were blocked by landslides had been cleared.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian military said it was sending about 100 personnel to guard aid convoys after hungry villagers looted trucks carrying food supplies for earthquake victims over the weekend.
“They will be there to support personnel on the ground,” the commander of a military garrison based in Makassar city, Major General Andi Sumangerukka, said in a statement.
Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini said aid arrived late to some locations because roads were blocked.  “It wasn’t looting. People were hungry and shops were closed,” she said.
The disaster agency said displaced people staying in temporary shelters would receive coronavirus tests.  “We want to make sure that the displaced people don’t contract Covid-19,” agency chairman Doni Mornardo said, adding that young people would be separated from the elderly to prevent transmission.
The agency said on Sunday that more than 700 people were injured in the temblor.
