P Kumaran will be the new Indian Ambassador to Qatar, according to a post on the website of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Friday.
Kumaran, who is currently the joint secretary in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), will take up his assignment in Qatar shortly, the website said.
Kumaran is an Indian Foreign Service Officer of the 1992 batch. He has served as a passport officer in Bangalore and held senior positions at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.
His first overseas posting was at Cairo, where he was the third secretary.
Kumaran has served in the Arab world for seven years.
Sanjeev Arora is the current Indian ambassador to Qatar.
