Santos set up an all-Brazilian Copa Libertadores final against Rio de Janeiro city rivals Palmeiras thanks to a convincing 3-0 win over Argentinia’s Boca Juniors on Wednesday at the Vila Belmiro stadium.
Following a 0-0 away draw in the first leg last week, Santos had no trouble in securing a spot in the final at their home ground.
Midfielder Diego Pituca opened the scoring in the first half, while midfielder Yeferson Soltedo and winger Lucas Braga also hit the net after the break.
Paris Saint-Germain player Neymar celebrated in a video call with his former club, where he started his career in the youth academy in 2003 and played until 2013.
On Tuesday, Palmeiras booked a ticket to the final despite a 2-0 defeat to River Plate, Boca’s arch-rivals in Buenos Aires, thanks to a 3-0 first leg triumph.
The Libertadores final will be played on January 30 in the legendary Maracana stadium in Rio without spectators due to the coronavirus pandemic.
After a six-month break due to the coronavirus pandemic the Copa Libertadores resumed play in September 2020.
Santos have won three previous South American championships, most recently in 2011, while Palmeiras are chasing just their second crown after 1999.
