A top official of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has urged parents to allow their children to get free seasonal flu vaccine available at the PHCC health centres, HMC outpatient clinics, and designated private and semi-private clinics and hospitals across Qatar.
National Lead for Healthy Children and Adolescents Strategy at PHCC Dr Sadriya Al Kohji said it was more important this year to get the flu vaccine.
“Changing seasons as well as children interacting with each other at school in particular during the COVID-19 pandemic may lead to the spread of seasonal flu during the upcoming months,” she said.
According to her, children are more vulnerable to get severe complications as a result of the flu.
She said, “Children aged below five, especially those who are under two years, are most vulnerable to experience more severe complications due to the flu. Vaccinate your children against the flu infection, its serious symptoms and prevent its spread to others.”
Kohji urged people to book an appointment for the shot at any PHCC health centre.
“Take an appointment for your vaccination at any PHCC health centre to receive the flu vaccine free of charge,” she said.
She added that according to studies, getting a flu shot reduces the risk of flu infections.
“Studies revealed that the flu vaccination leads to reducing the risk of flu infections, visits to a physician and absenteeism from work as well as reducing children’s admission to the hospital due to coronavirus infections,” Kohji said.
