World Cup standings leader Halvor Egner Granerud returned to the top of the podium with victory in Titisee-Neustadt on Sunday by narrowly edging out Norwegian compatriot Daniel Andre Tande.
Granerud, who was second in Saturday’s event at the same German venue, leapt 140 metres and 138m on the large hill for 299.4 points, 2.4 more than Tande (138.5m and 138m).
Reigning overall champion Stefan Kraft had a positive result in third in a difficult season hampered by an early coronavirus infection but was 8.1 points off the winner from jumps of 138m and 136m.
Poland’s Kamil Stoch, who won the Four Hills Tournament for the third time on Wednesday and claimed victory on Saturday, had an unusually poor display to finish 17th.
Organizers had earlier apologized to him after Saturday’s award ceremony took place without the country’s anthem.
“It was never our intention to mock or hurt the Polish team or the Polish nation,” organizers wrote in a Facebook statement.
“We regret all the more that our technology failed yesterday at the award ceremony and that we could not honour Kamil’s victory with the national anthem,” they added.
The organizing committee formally apologized “to the Polish ski jumping team, the Polish federation, the Polish fans and the Polish nation.”
Stoch’s victory was his 39th World Cup triumph to take him level with compatriot Adam Malysz, who is now a sport director with the Polish team.
