Upon the directives of His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar on Thursday sent urgent medical aid to support the victims of the Vamco Typhoon that hit the Philippines.
Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), in cooperation with the Amiri Air Force, transported the aid through an air bridge to reach the victims.
The aid includes 40 tonnes of food and non-food products, in addition to camping equipment such as tents, water, sanitation, electricity generators, and rescue boats.
Director-General of QFFD Khalifa bin Jassem Al Kuwari said the aid was part of Qatar’s continued efforts in aiding friends in the Philippines.
Al Kuwari stressed that Qatar moved with urgency to the aid of the victims in the Philippines.
He said the quick engagement of the wise leadership with the disaster reflected the commitment of Qatar to alleviating suffering and enhancing international efforts in the field of emergency aid.
The aid will be carried out with strategic partners Qatar Charity and Qatar Red Crescent. Qatar Red Crescent, in coordination with the Philippines Red Cross, will ensure the quick delivery of aid needed by the victims of the typhoon. Qatar Charity will focus on food security by providing food baskets.
