Qatar has ranked high in the FutureBrand’s Country Index (Ci). Qatar as a brand climbed up eight places to secure 18th position globally in 2020.
“Qatar is known for its successful airline industry, not to mention its petroleum and natural gas reserves. The country’s preparations for hosting the 2022 World Cup have progressed. It announced changes to its labour laws in August, the latest in a serious of employment reforms,” the report said.
“There is less crime [in Qatar], technology is very good, airways is best in the world financially for business and leisure. Very luxurious and accommodating,” the report said.
The index revealed a growing global confidence in the Middle East, especially Qatar.
When the index was launched in 2014, respondents identified Qatar among the countries most likely to be moving forwards in years to come. “At the time, those we surveyed reported strong perceptions around business potential and momentum in innovation as well as energy and technology — all of which correlate to country brand strength,” the report pointed out.
Japan retained its no 1 spot in the rankings. It was joined in the top five by Switzerland, Germany and Canada.
The Country Index is an in-depth and nuanced ranking of global country brands. Conducted six months into the coronavirus pandemic, it draws on qualitative and quantitative data gathered from over 2,500 influential individuals including chief executives, civil servants and other high-ranking professionals across the globe.
