The final match of Pakistan Super League 2000 (PSL5) was played between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings recently after a gap of almost eight months when the play offs and final were halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Karachi Kings lifted the winners trophy beating Lahore Qalandars by five wickets, their first-ever title of Pakistan’s premier Twenty20 tournament.
Considering Pakistan’s biggest rivalry in PSL big finale, Anwar Ali Rana, who normally conducts children’s programmes on his YouTube channel #meetwithrana, organised a live session to discuss pre and post-match analysis of PSL 5 final. Some of the fine legendary cricketers and keen observers of the game were invited to share their opinion on the grand finale. Gulshan Ali Shaikh, Syed Nasooh Akhter, Shahid Nadeem and Shehzad Ali were asked to discuss some of the logical questions. The panelists presented their views through their vast cricketing knowledge, exposure and understanding on both the teams for their strengths and weaknesses, their possible team combinations, prediction of total scores, setting the target or chasing, and the teams’ current form. They discussed the factors in details in the pre-match programme which lasted for an hour.
Interestingly, all the panelists weighed in for Lahore Qalandars when they were asked for the possible winner of the final match.
The pre-match programme was watched by people in big numbers and some of the valid questions from the audience were also answered by the panelists.
On the day following the final match, Rana conducted another post-final match programme to discuss possible reasons and turning points of the final match.
Cricket greats were part of the discussion yet again. Ch Shafqat, Nawaz Akram, Danyal Aziz, Syed Nasooh Akhter and Gulshan Ali Shaikh highlighted the turning point of LQ opting to bat after winning the toss on a used and two-phased pitch.
The panelists criticised Qalandars’ slow batting approach and at the same time applauded Babar Azam’s batting technique and the way he paced his innings on a difficult pitch.
The panelists appreciated overseas players who had travelled to Pakistan amid the COVID-19 and staying in bio-bubble. They gave well-deserved credit to PCB, PSL team management, players, officials and media persons involved in the tournament.
