Qatar Charity (QC), with the support of philanthropists in Qatar, distributed relief aid to 1,370 families affected by floods in Dadu District of Sindh in Pakistan, in close coordination with the district authorities.
The aid included 170 tents for those who lost homes, in addition to 1,200 hygiene kits to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
During the implementation of the relief project, QC focused on the most vulnerable families, orphans, people with special needs, female-headed households and the poorest families.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the donors in Qatar for extending support at the time of adversity when they have lost their homes, livestock and crops due to the devastating floods.
The aid is part of QC’s continued humanitarian role and relief initiatives in various countries.
Heavy rainfall, which started in Sindh and Baluchistan provinces in August 2020, had created a floods situation in Karachi, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad and Dadu. Johi Taluka in Dadu District as well as the districts of Badin, Mirpur Khas and Umer Kot were greatly affected by the floods.
QC had earlier provided relief aid to the people affected by various crises and disasters in Pakistan. It delivered assistance to the earthquake-hit people in Jammu and Kashmir last July, benefiting 245,000 people, at a total cost of QR1.8 million.
QC distributed 200 winter kits, two ambulances, medical equipment and medicines for the health department in Mirpur, in addition to 80 small and medium-size income-generating projects. Besides, it had implemented relief food projects in Neelum, benefiting hundreds of families.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a government institution in Pakistan, honoured QC in recognition of its humanitarian and development efforts in the country.
