The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) on Thursday launched a new festival for products from Qatari farms.
Director of the Food Security Department at the MME Masoud Jarallah Al Marri said that 150 farms are participating in this year’s event. He added that the festival, which takes place at the start of the agricultural season each year, aims to support national products, as part of the ministry’s strategy of promoting high-quality national products.
He highlighted that the ministry implemented a number of projects to encourage the farmers to improve the quality of their products. He also said that Qatar has signed many free-trade agreements and that its markets are open to products worldwide.
The total production of Qatari agricultural reached 92,000 tonnes, he said, adding that the ministry aims to locally produce 70 percent of the market need by 2023. (QNA)
