Preparations are going on for the first virtual Graduate Studies Open House at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU). The university’s largest student recruitment event provides key information to those interested in applying for the HBKU Master’s or PhD programs offered for the academic year 2021-2022.
The Graduate Studies Open House, taking place from 22 to 30 November, is an opportunity to learn more about academic programs, research opportunities, admissions and campus activities.
Moving the Graduate Studies Open House online gives prospective students in Qatar and abroad the opportunity to participate. On a different day, each of the six colleges will be hosting their session. Typically, this will involve a live welcome and discussion with college deans, as well as questions and answers, Enrolment and Student Affairs representatives.
A more dynamic mix of content across the university’s communication channels, including live streams, pre-recorded presentations and Q&A sessions, will be offered in order to engage an even greater number of prospective students from Qatar and abroad. HBKU hopes to engage with an even larger number of prospective students from Qatar and around the world.
Speaking ahead of the Graduate Studies Open House, Dr. Emad El-Din Shahin, Interim Provost, said The Open House is an opportunity to showcase our unique multidisciplinary academic programs and to highlight the importance of graduate studies to prospective students. While current health precautions explain our decision to move open house online, we are confident that this year’s event will be as comprehensive and informative as previous editions, not to mention more accessible. For example, our daily focus on a specific college lends itself to more in-depth coverage of specific programs and research activities.
“Prospective students nevertheless retain the option to learn more about our colleges by attending as many sessions as possible. In doing so, they will discover the true extent of HBKU’s innovative research ecosystem and multidisciplinary approach to learning, inquiry and discovery. Registration for each college session is possible via our bespoke and innovative Open House website.”
Maryam Al Mannai, Vice President of Student Affairs, said In keeping with academic institutions around the world, HBKU is committed to supporting its students beyond the classroom. Open House is therefore an opportunity to learn more about the services we provide to students living and studying in the City of Education. These include health and well-being facilities, student counseling, and learning and writing assistance. HBKU is also home to a range of extracurricular activities, ranging from sports teams, clubs and pop-up events to the Student Representative Council, student employment opportunities and international research opportunities. The overarching aim of these activities is to ensure that our students are safe, secure and integrated into our community.”
