This year’s Doha Healthcare Week (DHW), developed by the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), to be held from November 8 to 14, will call attention to the need for greater public awareness of health challenges through a series of free-to-attend activities, webinars and professional development activities.
WISH, Qatar Foundation’s global health initiative, will work with local partners, such as the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Sidra Medicine, to engage the community in learning about different subjects, including the importance of prenatal ultrasounds and the relationship between COVID-19 and diabetes.
With many of the sessions to be held virtually, DHW events are open to all globally and the full programme of activities, along with registration details, can be accessed via https://2020.wish.org.qa/doha-healthcare-week/
Aljawhra Al Mana, head of Partnerships at WISH, said: “We express our appreciation to each of our partners, including institutions and healthcare professionals, and we are excited to work with them to fully engage our communities to encourage the adoption of healthier lifestyles. We are also pleased to be able to invite a global audience to take part in our activities this year. Combined with the physical and psychological stress of the pandemic this past year, our goal of promoting health and wellbeing during Doha Healthcare Week is all the more important.”
In keeping with its focus on healthcare innovation, WISH has partnered with the Ministry of Transport and Communications, which will present an Entrepreneurship Session for healthcare innovators and entrepreneurs at their TASMU Innovation Lab on November 8.
Aspetar will present a one-day workshop about health and nutrition, with BMI tests and consultations for students and their parents on November 10 and PE teachers on November 11.

To mark World Diabetes Day on November 14, HMC, MoPH and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) will also present a session on diabetes. In addition, they will partner to hold public sessions on mental health and geriatrics, respectively.
Sidra Medicine’s participation at DHW has a primary focus on women’s health. The first ‘Meet Sidra Medicine’s Experts’ webinar session will be Recommendations on Ultrasound in Pregnancy on November 10 from 2pm to 3pm in English.
Prof Karim Kalache will focus on the importance of prenatal ultrasounds and touch on the reasons why they are done, routine ultrasounds in early pregnancy and what mothers-to-be can expect from the Sidra Medicine team.
The second webinar on Women’s Health and its Challenges will be presented by Dr Aisha Ahmad Yousuf on November 12 from 2 to 3pm and will be delivered in Arabic.
November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), in collaboration with HMC and the National Cancer Programme at the MoPH, will present a CPD-accredited webinar for primary healthcare providers on Suspected Lung Cancer Referral Guidelines on November 14.
Healthcare providers will be able to make good practical use of the referral guidelines for suspected lung cancer cases to enhance the quality of existing cancer care in Qatar.
