The Second Circuit of Court of Appeal has assigned a number of experts to study the cause of the gas tank explosion at Hala Istanbul restaurant next to Landmark Mall and submit its report at its next hearing in June-end.
The session was presided over by Judge Dr Abdulrahman Mohamed Abdul Sharfi. Judge Nadir Abul Fotouh Deeb and Judge Fakhr al Din Hassan Izz al Din and a public prosecutor were also present during the hearing.
The four defendants appeared before the court in the presence of their legal representatives, reports Al Raya newspaper.
The Court of First Instance had sentenced the first and second defendants to five years in jail and slapped a fined QR10,000 each.
The court had also sentenced the third and fourth defendants to two years in jail and slapped a fine of QR6,000 on each of them.
The court had ordered the first and second defendants to pay QR60,000 each to the next of kin of the deceased. It also ordered the third and fourth defendants to pay QR40,000 each to the next of kin of the deceased. The defendants had also been ordered to pay compensation to the injured.
The court rejected the civil lawsuit submitted by the agent of the third and fourth defendants and referred the case to the competent civil court.
