Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the value of trade between Qatar and Germany crossed $946 million in the first half of 2020, Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani has said.
Addressing Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry virtual meetings held recently, Sheikh Khalifa said the bilateral trade stood at $2.3 billion in value last year.
This is an improvement of 10 percent when compared with $2.1 billion in 2018, he added.
Germany is one of the most important trade destinations for Qatari investors, whose investments in the Deutschland cover several sections including automobiles telecommunication, hospitality and banking services, Sheikh Khalifa noted.
On the Arab-German economic ties, he said the relations have developed significantly in the recent years, with trade reaching €44.3 billion in 2019. Of this, the Arab exports to Germany accounted for €12.9 billion, he said, noting that the Arab investments in Germany amounted to nearly €100 billion.
The meeting was presided over by the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Peter Ramsauer and drew the participation of its Secretary General Abdulaziz Al Mikhlafi and presidents of the chambers of commerce and industry in the Arab countries.
QC Director General Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi also participated in the webinar.
The event deliberated upon the Chamber’s proposed activities for the next year and approval on the final accounts for 2019 as well as the draft budget for 2021.
Sharqi said the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry played a key role in enhancing cooperation between business sectors in Germany and the Arab countries. It also promoted trade and investment cooperation between the two sides, he added
Sharqi said the Arab countries have benefitted more from the German expertise in many strategic projects, especially in infrastructure and energy sectors.
More than 300 German companies are currently operating in Qatar in various fields including rail, roads, infrastructure, construction and medical devices and equipment and others, he said.
“Through the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, We not only seek to develop trade between the two sides but also to build genuine partnership that helps in enhancing German technology in Qatar and Arab countries,” he said.
