Qatar Chess Association, in collaboration with Charity Week - Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has invited chess enthusiasts to participate in the ‘Educate All’ Online Chess Marathon.
The tournament will be a 3-hour Blitz Marathon which will be played on lichess.org platform on October 31, from 6pm Qatar time.
The player who gets the most points after 3 hours of play will be declared the winner.
Participants can play at their own leisure during the tournament; they can join at any time they want and play as much as they want.
‘Educate All’ is not just a chess tournament as it also inspires young people to become active, socially engaged and united upon the humanitarian values. It also aims to raise money to help countless orphans and needy children across the world.
Therefore, all participants in the Marathon will be asked to contribute to raising money for this cause as all the collected entry fees will go to support ‘Donation for Education’ campaign by Charity Week - HBKU. Likewise, participants are invited to voluntarily make any other donations for the campaign as they prefer through the link: https://donate.educationaboveall.org/en/HBKU
Anybody can participate in the tournament by making a donation of QR10.
The first three winners will receive $250, $150 and $100, respectively.
There are several other smaller cash prizes also up for grabs.
“We believe in chess as a positive force in connecting people, raising awareness, learning together and encouraging one another the most, especially during this challenging time globally,” the organisers of the tournament said in a press statement.
Lichess is a free , open-source internet chess server run by a non-profit organization of the same name. Anyone can play anonymously, even though
