Thailand’s government lifted a state of emergency in Bangkok that failed to halt an ongoing pro-democracy movement that has seen daily protests in the capital. A Thursday announcement published in the Royal Gazette officially lifted the emergency decree that banned public gatherings and also allowed the government to make arrests and detain activists without charges.
