Dr Abdullatif Al Khal, Chair of the National Strategic Group on COVID-19, has warned that the flu virus that will be spreading this winter is different from the virus that circulated last winter.
“Flu virus can cause severe illness for some people, especially those at increased risk for developing influenza-related complications,” Dr Al Khal, who is also the Head of the Infectious Diseases Division at Hamad Medical Corporation, said.
“The seasonal influenza vaccine is currently available in Qatar and is the same vaccine we import every year from prestigious companies such as Abbott and Sanofi,” he added.
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) launched its annual seasonal influenza campaign on Tuesday. The vaccine will be available for free from government, semi-government and private healthcare facilities. This year, the MoPH seeks to vaccinate more than 500,000 people.
