The decision of many schools to continue providing educational lessons daily through the Times programme and obligating students to do their homework when students are giving their exams on two subjects has irked some parents. Such a decision has put tremendous pressure on parents and students alike.
Some parents took to social media to express their frustration over the issue.
In a tweet, well-known Qatari Twitterati Hamad Lahdan Al Mohannadi said, “It is strange that some schools even during the exam period assign homework to students. Parents do not know whether their children should study for exams or do the homework. Whether parents should help them write their homework or supervise their studies remotely.”
Al Dossary, mother of a student, said, “It is not related to some schools, but to all schools. It is assumed that this decision was taken by the ministry, especially since schools are nothing but departments that implement the ministry’s directions.”
Sana, another Twitter user, said, “There are videos that are downloaded daily with new lessons. In fact, we are no longer able to follow all this. On one hand, there are exams of our wards, and on the other we have our duties as mothers. These days, I do not think, students watch videos of lessons. I personally watch the videos and do the assignments on their behalf because they are doing their exams and I do not want to distract them with other things.”
Hajan, another parent, expressed her unhappiness with the decision. “How can we do all this when we return from our work after 3 pm?”
Omaima Asim, a parent, said, “All schools do this, not some of them. I, as a teacher, not convinced with this, but I am obliged to implement it. Also as a parent I am not convinced that they should provide lessons and assignments in all subjects during the exam period.”
Butorki, another parent, said, “I discussed this issue with the school and they told me that the study schedules come from the ministry. First and second grade students can’t take this amount of daily lessons and homework and then studying for exams.”
Al Reem, another parent, echoed the sentiment: “Indeed, this is one of the most important problems facing us parents. We are tired. Is it not enough for the student to study two subjects daily for the exams? And they are burdened with new homework every day. This way the student will reach boredom, fatigue, and exhaustion.”
Sarah Al Mohannadi, another parent, said, “I hope the ministry will take a decision on this issue. We have two exams in one day, and despite all this pressure, we are surprised with lessons and daily duties ... At least this period they let us focus on the exams more.”
