THE State of Qatar participated on Sunday, via videoconferencing, in the 12th meeting of attorney generals, public prosecutors and heads of investigation and prosecution bodies of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC). Attorney-General HE Dr Ali bin Fattis Al Marri headed Qatar’s delegation to the meeting.
The meeting reviewed several topics on the agenda, notably the amendment to the rules of cooperation between the public prosecution and the attorney generals’ offices. Also, it discussed the proposal to prepare a draft guide on procedural controls for modern technology crimes, in addition to reviewing many topics, including completing the project for organising public prosecution and attorney generals’ services in the GCC, the rules for child protection during the investigation phase and the mechanism for conducting the procedures for members of the public prosecution offices in the GCC countries.
The participants also reviewed the experience of Qatar in establishing health prosecution in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
In March, Marri issued a decision to establish the health prosecution, as part of the precautionary and preventive measures taken by the State to ensure public health and community safety. The health prosecution includes specialised legal and judicial cadres and experts specialising in health crimes to speed up litigation process in the field.
The health prosecution’s role is not limited to the COVID-19 pandemic, as it contributes to protecting human health in Qatar and also works to establish public prosecutors specialising in medical, cosmetic and other fields.
