Qatar Charity (QC) has carried out the largest relief effort to benefit those affected by torrents and floods in Sennar State, Sudan, providing shelter and food assistance to victims. The Qatar Charity field teams managed to reach out to the affected; using ferries and boats after the land roads had been cut off due to the rains, torrents and floods that had hit Sudan badly.
The Wali (governor) of Sinnar Al-Mahi Muhammad Suleiman described the Qatar Charity convoy as “very large and unprecedented, bringing aid to the affected population in the state”.
Al Mahi thanked the leadership and the people of Qatar for their contribution to alleviating the plight of those affected by the floods and praised the efforts made by Qatar Charity.
Hussein Karmash, director of Qatar Charity’s Sudan Office, said the convoy was part of ‘Peace for Sudan’ to support those affected by torrents and floods. He said 1,200 food baskets, 2,400 blankets and 200 tents were provided to the affected during the first phase.
The leadership of the affected areas in the Sennar State welcomed the relief efforts of the Qatar Charity.
Qatar Charity had previously sent hundreds of tons of food and shelter aid to Sudan. The fifth aircraft will arrive in Khartoum within the next two days, along with a ship carrying almost 330 tons of aid to those affected by the floods, which will soon arrive in Port Sudan.
