QATAR Museums (QM) showcased new and popular local attractions in various parts of the country on the occasion of World Tourism Day on Sunday.
As stated by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the global event highlights the important role tourism plays in preserving and promoting culture and heritage around the world.
This year under the theme ‘Tourism and Rural Development’, the World Tourism Day plays up the sector’s unique ability to drive economic development and provide opportunities outside big cities, including for those communities that would otherwise be left behind.
In an email to Culture Pass members, QM underscored that while the past period has affected and tourism around the world, Qatar is embracing the “new normal” with the resumption of events and activities catered to the community while preparing to welcome international visitors once again.
“The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day gives us a unique opportunity to showcase the many sights and experiences that Qatar has to offer outside Doha.  Some of our country’s most storied heritage sites, cultural traditions and natural wonders lie outside the city boundaries and only by visiting these sites can visitors come to truly understand our country”, according to the QM Culture Pass email.
It also stated that as Qatar prepares to welcome millions of visitors for the FIFA World Cup 2022, QM continues to further the country’s diverse tourism offerings and experiences by providing spaces for respite, education and inspiration.
Among the local attractions highlighted by QM on the occasion is the new Al Majles Resort at Sealine Beach, which offers a healthy dose of adventure along with breathtaking views of the Inland Sea, as well as the first-of-its-kind destination in the Middle East, Zulal Wellness Resort from Msheireb Properties in collaboration with international wellness brand Chiva-Som International Health Resort, which will soon open its doors.
