THE third plane carrying Qatari humanitarian aid landed at Khartoum Airport on Saturday, as part of Qatar Charity’s (QC) campaign titled ‘Peace for Sudan’, which aims at supporting those affected by torrents and floods in the country. The fourth Qatari plane carrying the humanitarian aid will reach on Sunday.
The aid was received by Ambassador of Qatar to Sudan HE Abdulrahman bin Ali Al Kubaisi, Chairman of the committee for combating floods at the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Muhyiddin Salem, Commissioner-General of the Humanitarian Aid Commission Dr Ahmed Al Bashir, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Sudan Hussein Karmash and members of Qatari Embassy.
On the occasion, Kubaisi said that the support comes from Qatar’s relalisation of the the extent of suffering of people in various states of Sudan due to the torrents and floods, referring to the distinguished relations between the two countries.
He added that the total quantity of aid to be carried by the two planes to Sudan is 65 tonnes of shelter and other materials, including 546 shelter tents, 5,800 blankets, 15 field hospital tents and 15 mobile school tents.
For his part, the chairman of the committee for combating floods at the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the Sudanese-Qatari relations and extended thanks to Qatar for its solidarity with Sudan to confront the disaster. The commissioner general of the Humanitarian Aid Commission said that Qatari support to Sudan was not new and that the aid would be distributed in cooperation with Qatar Charity to alleviate the suffering of those affected in different states.
The director of QC’s office in Sudan said that the fifth plane will arrive in Khartoum early next month. He also announced that a ship carrying 300 tonnes of food aid and other materials will arrive in Sudan in the coming days.
The director added that the money collected in Qatar as part of ‘Peace for Sudan’ campaign will be allocated to reconstruction projects.
