Qatar has participated in a virtual session of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which was attended by all members of the organisation.
Qatar was represented in the meeting by Chairman of Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology (QGOSM) Eng Mohammed bin Saud Al Musallam.
During the session, member states were invited to approve the report of the ISO secretary-general by electronic vote.
Head of Governance at ISO Jose Baltar presented a report on the legislative provisions that will be adopted as well as a brief presentation of the report of the ISO secretary-general on the current work and future activities of the organisation, noting the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the international community in general and the activities of the organisation in particular.
He also referred to the organisation’s handling of the pandemic challenges, noting that a team has been established to manage the crisis, maintain business continuity, make recommendations and assist the organisation’s general secretariat in decision-making.
The report reviewed the various stages of the preparation of the organisation’s strategy for 2021-2030, and its implementation plan, the readiness of the work plan for developing countries for the period 2021-2025, as well as a gender equality action plan for the period 2019-2021, which outlines initiatives and sets goals towards supporting gender equality in the field of standardisation.
The report also presented the details and projects of the organisation’s strategic plan for the period 2016-2020. The session included an opening speech by President of the ISO Eddy Njoroge and an introductory message by the candidate for ISO president Ulrika Francke.
