QATAR has voiced its strong condemnation of the human rights violations committed in Syria, especially those revealed by the report of the Commission of Inquiry in the areas that returned to the control of the Syrian government forces.
Qatar indicated that military operations, indiscriminate bombing, killing, arrests, demolition of homes, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, torture, prevention of individuals from returning to their homes and the prevention of freedom of movement are continuing, adding that these affect people’s ability to access health care, education and other services, and to exercise their basic rights.
This came in the speech Qatar delivered by Deputy Permanent Representative of the State to the United Nations Office in Geneva Abdullah Al Nuaimi in an interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic, during the 45th session of the Human Rights Council.
Nuaimi expressed Qatar’s concern over the challenges and obstacles related to humanitarian access to northern Syria, since the number of authorised border crossings was reduced to one, which has negatively affected the lives of millions of people in need of humanitarian aid.
The insistence of the Syrian regime and its allies not to implement a complete cessation of fighting in all parts of Syria and their continuing military operations in the city of Idlib confirms the fact that they cannot be trusted because they only believe in a military solution, and use talks and political negotiations as a way to waste time, he pointed out.
Nuaimi said that the conclusions reached by the Commission of Inquiry in its report regarding the Syrian government’s continuation to commit crimes against humanity and war crimes require the international community to exert more serious and effective efforts to ensure accountability and end the state of impunity for all those responsible for the violations and crimes that have been committed during the past ten years and are still being committed against the brotherly Syrian people.
