MANAMA: An Israeli delegation conducted official talks in Bahrain on Wednesday, the first visit by diplomats from that country since the Gulf kingdom signed a deal normalising ties with Israel last week.
“Talks were held in Manama with an official Israeli delegation tackling areas of cooperation,” the state-run Bahrain News Agency quoted an unnamed official source as saying, without elaborating.
An Airbus A320 affiliated with the Israeli airline Israir took off from Tel Aviv and landed in the Bahraini capital early on Wednesday, data from the online service Flightradar24 showed.
The direct flight took more than two hours and crossed Saudi Arabia’s airspace.
On September 15, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates signed treaties with Israel in Washington to fully normalise their relationships, the first such major agreements between Arab countries and Israel in a quarter century.
The two became the first Gulf states to establish formal ties with Israel. (DPA)
