NEW DELHI: Heavy monsoon rains lashed India’s financial capital of Mumbai, disrupting road and rail traffic and flooding low-lying areas of the city, officials said on Wednesday.
Mumbai received 286.4 millimetres of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, the second-highest level of rainfall the city has seen during a 24-hour period in the last decade, according to Mahesh Palawat of private weather forecaster Skymet. The heavy downpour comes as the city battles the coronavirus, with reports of waterlogging in a dedicated COVID-19 hospital, and concerns about violations of social distancing norms. (DPA)
