BEIJING: China shot back at US President Donald Trump’s accusations that Beijing is responsible for the global coronavirus crisis, saying that the United States is trying to avoid its responsibility and engage in “political manipulation.”
“What the United States has to do now is to stop political manipulation, abandon the labelling and politicisation of the virus and work with the international community to fight the epidemic rather than shirk responsibility and discredit others,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday in a statement posted on the ministry’s website. The reaction came after Trump on Tuesday said China should be held accountable for unleashing “this plague onto the world,” referring to the coronavirus. (DPA)
