Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros. Co. (AAB), the exclusive distributor of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Qatar, has joined Doha Environmental Action Projects (DEAP), a volunteering organisation leading the fight against plastic pollution and the beach cleanup movement in Qatar, during its 175th Beach Clean Up drive in celebration of the World Cleanup Day.
The World Cleanup Day is a global initiative where all countries participate by clearing their chosen coastal areas from trash and pollution.
R K Murugan, AAB’s acting CEO, led the cleanup with limited number of AAB employees and DEAP volunteers, with COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing measures in place.
During the event, Murugan commended DEAP’s commitment and initiative to bring communities together with the common purpose of fighting the menace of plastic pollution. He conveyed AAB’s intention to support DEAP and make the community bigger, more informed and more able in making a difference to Mother Nature.
Around 1,000 kilogrammes of plastic and non-biodegradable materials were collected during the activity at a beach area in the North.
“Everyone has a role and responsibility towards the environment. Having a conscious effort of reducing waste and pollution, we can do away with single-use plastic bags and materials that can pile up and become hazardous to the environment. With DEAP as a partner in taking concrete steps to protect and care for the environment, AAB fulfils its dedication to contribute towards Qatar National Vision 2030’s focus on Environmental Development,” said a press statement from AAB.
