Qatar Museums (QM) is presenting ‘Asma Al Mannai: Colourful Moments at the Fire Station: Artist in Residence’, from September 23 to October 24.
The Qatari artist’s first solo exhibition encompasses a collection of passing moments and experiences depicted using different methods and mediums, including drawing, painting, water colour and ink.
On her fascination with fleeting moments and individual interpretation, Mannai, a member of the Qatar Fine Arts Society, said: “Each of our experiences differs in place and time, existing in parallel worlds. These combined moments speak of time and feelings occurring over days and years. I contemplate these moments experienced through our reality and imagination, freezing them through a photograph or painting.”
Through a series of paintings and drawings, ranging from reality and modernity to the simple and the complex, the collection reflects on instances created through Mannai’s observations during her time spent both at home and abroad while in residence at Cité internationale des Arts in Paris in 2019 as part of the Fire Station’s international exchange programme.
Opening hours for the Fire Station are from 9am to 7pm from Saturday to Thursdays and 1:30pm to 7pm on Fridays.
Qatar Museums has implemented protocols in accordance with recommendations from Qatar’s Health Protection and Communicable Disease Control office of the Ministry of Public Health. In keeping with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Public Health, a limited number of visitors and staff will be allowed in the Fire Station at any given time.
Upon arrival, visitors will be required to present a ‘green’ health status on the Ehteraz virus-tracing app. Masks are required for all visitors aged 12 and older. Each person will also be checked for a normal temperature reading at the entrance. Visitors who have a temperature or do not have a mask will not be allowed into the Fire Station.
