A team of The College of the North Atlantic – Qatar’s (CNA-Q) business students emerged big winners from a recent entrepreneurial competition held in Doha.
The six-member team comprised Business Administration, Human Resources and Marketing students came in the top three teams, winning the Best Marketing Strategy, the Best Presentation awards at a recent INJAZ competition.
“I am pleased of these exceptional students. They worked hard, utilised the skills they have learned at the College and created a successful environment-friendly company that obviously impressed the judges,” said team mentor and CNA-Q Business instructor Angela Flowerday.
The company created by the CNA-Q students - Al Nakhla – makes straws out of fallen palm leaves. The idea is to limit the use of plastic straws, thereby reducing overall plastic waste. The team used the CNA-Q cafeteria and Tim Horton’s to test market its product on campus.
“This was an excellent learning experience. We all gained a great deal of practical experience from this exercise and we plan to continue with our product and turn it into a successful business. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Angela for her guidance,” said Al Nakhla Spokesperson Ayesha Ishrath Suraif.
The rest of the team included Maaz Syed Ali, Perrihan Shehata, Anood Hussaini Syeda, Aisha Al Mirza and Dana Abdelkarim.
