AL Khor has lately emerged as an ideal tourist destination in Qatar, with beautiful, lush green family parks, kayaking opportunities, water sports and new road networks.
Located at the northeastern coast of Qatar, Al Khor will soon have a traditional souq. The new souq features a number of shops and a dedicated area for public gathering and is located close to the seafront.
Besides, Al Bayt Stadium, a beautiful FIFA 2022 World Cup stadium currently under construction, once completed, will make Al Khor one of the best seafront cities of Qatar.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, a long time resident of Al Khor said, “Al Khor, earlier known for its fishing harbour, has undergone total transformation in the last five years, attracting large number of visitors. And once it is connected to Doha by rail network, the city, one of the oldest settlements of Qatar, will be an attractive residential area too for the people working in Doha.”
“The development of family parks, museum and the marine transportation network, which is expected to open shortly, will make Al Khor an entertainment hub and a shopping destination for handicrafts and marine products”, he added.
It is noteworthy that the Doha Metro’s Red Line (also known as Coast Line) will extend to Al Khor.
An official of a real estate firm said: “Al Khor has already emerged as a peaceful residential area between Doha and Ras Laffan Industrial City. Over 10,000 new residential units have been constructed in Al Khor in the last couple of years alone. Besides, many housing units are in the final phase of construction.”
Al Khor has a lot to offer to the blue collar workers as well, such as Al Khor Workers Sports Complex that includes separate fields for cricket and football, basketball courts and three volleyball courts, in addition to 35 shops, two cinema halls. A large number of companies have shifted their workers’ accommodations to the area.
A senior employee of an engineering company said, “Most of our workers are engaged in various projects in Ras Laffan Industrial City. Now, Al Khor has every facility to keep the expatriate workforce entertained. The city has also become more easily accessible with the new roads.”
