Hong Kong activist Nathan Law wins Time magazine reader poll Sep 20, 2020 0 289 12345 DPAHong KongNathan Law, a high-profile pro-democracy activist currently in exile in the United Kingdom, has come top of Time magazine’s 2020 TIME100 Reader Poll, a list of the world’s most influential people.Law, who swiftly resigned from the political group Demosisto, along with activists Joshua Wong, Agnes Chow and Ivan Lam, ahead of a new national security law, fled to London on June 27 due to concerns for his safety.The activist took first place in the poll after gaining 3.8 per cent of some 4.7 million votes cast by readers, who were asked by Time to vote for who they thought should make the publication’s annual list.Time said it will publish the complete list on Tuesday.In a reaction, Law said he wanted to draw attention to 12 Hong Kongers still detained in China’s prisons and wanted to world to stay united to safeguard shared democratic values.The young activist-politician lost his Legislative Council (LegCo) seat back in 2016, along with six others.Part of a so called “oath-taking controversy” at the time, Law quoted Gandhi while taking his oath, while others held banners and read in slow motion.
