Qatar Museums has signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Al Shamal Municipality and the Seashore Contracting and Engineering Group, to clean the coasts of cultural villages across the country in line with its deep belief in the value of protecting Qatar’s heritage and surrounding areas.
The agreement was signed by Ahmed Musa Al Namlah, CEO of Qatar Museums, Hamad Juma Al Mannai, Director of Al Shamal Municipality, and Salem Saeed Al Mohannadi, Chief Executive Officer of Seashore Group.
On the basis of the agreement, the three parties would collaborate over a one-year cycle to introduce a programme aimed at cleaning up the coastlines of cultural villages, beginning with the ancient town of Al Zubarah.
The parties to the agreement would provide assistance to volunteers and participants in the project.
Experts from Qatar Museums will introduce volunteers to cultural sites and the value of coastal cleaning in addition to creating an online application that recognizes cultural sites and offers a historical overview of the region.
Commenting on the initiative, Ahmad Musa Al-Namla said: “Beaches represent an attraction for tourists, which makes such sites prone to pollution. Our cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and Seashore Group in line with Qatar Museums’ keenness to raise awareness of the importance of archaeological sites and villages, and the need to conserve them as a living example for future generations. We are therefore pleased to join efforts with various state institutions, the private sector and community members to accomplish this noble mission, and to preserve our rich heritage that dates back thousands of years.”
The new agreement falls within the context of Qatar Museums’ partnership with relevant state agencies, community members and volunteers to preserve Qatar’s archeological sites.

It centralises resources and provides a comprehensive organisation for the development of museums and cultural projects, with a long-term ambition of creating a strong and sustainable cultural infrastructure for Qatar.
