The State of Qatar has achieved first place in the world in the number of customs seizures related to the fight against the smuggling of prevention and treatment items for coronavirus (COVID-19), such as disinfection materials, sterilisers, surgical masks and others.
This was part of the final report of the International Special Emergency Operation (STOP), which was initiated by the World Customs Organisation, the World Health Organization and Interpol, which was carried out between May 11 and July 12, 2020.
The final report of the operation praised the actions of Qatar, confirming that it has enhanced the status of the Middle East and North Africa region.
It was also pointed out that the State of Qatar was distinguished by the fact that the seizures amounted to 198, which suggests the intensity of the surveillance levied by the customs authorities of the State of Qatar on products imported into the country other than transit goods.
The report also strengthens Qatar’s status among active countries in the field of law enforcement and international cooperation and draws attention to the involvement of national customs officials involved in international emergency operations.
The United Kingdom came second with 123 seizures, while Peru came third with 95 seizures, all of which were items linked to the prevention of Coronavirus.
