The Cabinet has welcomed the Afghan peace negotiations that Doha is currently hosting as part of Qatar’s efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan.
The talks are being held in implementation of the directives of His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The talks yielded first positive results at the end of February 2020 with the signing of the peace agreement between the US and Taliban.
The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani.
The Cabinet affirmed that the Afghan negotiations, which are considered an achievement in themselves, constitute a milestone in Afghanistan’s history and open the way for the Afghan people to realise true national unity and a new era dominated by peace, security, stability and prosperity after more than 40 years of wars and conflicts.
The Cabinet said by promoting brotherhood and tolerance, giving priority to the national interest and the aspirations of the Afghan people, the Doha negotiations can achieve the required goal and reach a comprehensive agreement to bring about peace, preserve Afghanistan’s unity, independence and sovereignty, and mobilises the energies of its people for development. It praised the role of the US and all parties and international partners who exerted efforts to achieve peace in Afghanistan.
The Cabinet stressed that Qatar, which adopts dialogue as a method for resolving differences and settling disputes, will spare no effort in cooperating with the international community to achieve the desired goals of the negotiations.
The Cabinet also welcomed the results of the third session of the Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue, which was held in Washington on September 14-15.
