HONG KONG: Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong appeared in court on Tuesday along with 23 activists and lawmakers on charges of attending a banned commemoration of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre earlier this year.
Wong and others, including Lee Cheuk-yan and veteran democratic legislator Leung Kwok-hung, submitted no plea in response to the charges of unauthorised assembly.
The case was adjourned until October 15. The activists face prison sentences of up to seven years.
“No matter [...] the verdict. I have no regret to commemorate the crackdown from Tyranny,” Wong wrote on Twitter ahead of the hearing.
Two activists, Sunny Cheung and Nathan Law, absconded from Hong Kong ahead of the hearing, the prosecutor confirmed, citing records from the Immigration Department. (DPA)
