THE Embassy of the State of Qatar in the Republic of Peru has delivered Qatar Charity’s (QC) medical aid to Peru to support the country’s efforts to confront coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic at a formal ceremony in Lima.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health of Peru Dr Pilar Mazzetti, Peruvian Vice Minister of Defense Resources Gen Jose Boggiano Romano, Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Directorate General of Africa, Middle East and Gulf Countries Ambassador Carlos Zapata Lopez, a number of senior officials in the Peruvian government, and Qatar’s Ambassador to Peru HE Ali bin Hamad Al Sulaiti.
Mazzetti thanked Qatar’s government and people for the humanitarian gesture and for providing medical aid to her country to help Peru fight the pandemic.
Ambassador Lopez also expressed his appreciation for Qatar for standing by the republic amid the spread of COVID-19, stressing the depth of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
On behalf of the Peruvian Minister of Defense, Gen Jose Boggiano Romano also thanked Qatar and hailed its valuable support that would allow the front-line workers to confront the pandemic. He added that the assistance provided by Qatar is highly beneficial for the country in this difficult phase.
In turn, the ambassador of Qatar stressed the humanitarian role of Qatar and its assistance to friendly countries in view of the pandemic.
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, Qatar has provided urgent medical aid to nearly 78 friendly countries spread over five continents around the world, Ambassador Sulaiti said.
He pointed out that Qatar Airways played a pivotal role in the delivery of aid and repatriation of one million stranded people around the world.
Sulaiti hailed the depth of relations between Qatar and Peru, noting Qatar has extended its support to Peru during several crises.
