The Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) on Wednesday said that 577 building permits were issued by all municipalities of Qatar in August this year, a decrease of 16 percent when compared with the previous month.
According to a press release issued by PSA, the decrease was noted in the majority of the municipalities including Al Wakrah and Al Sheehaniya by 35 percent each, Al Rayyan by 25 percent, Umm Sala by 23 percent, Al Da’ayen by 10 percent.
On the other hand, the municipality of Al Shamal showed an increase of 42 percent, followed by Al Khor (26 percent) and Al Doha (10 percent).
It is worth mentioning that the release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the PSA and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment. Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
In a quick review of the data on building permits issued according to their geographical distribution during the month of August, it is found that municipality of Al Rayyan comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued was 147 permits, accounting for 25 percent of the total issued permits. Municipality of Al Doha came in second place with 128 permits, accounting for 22 percent, followed by Al Wakrah municipality with 97 permits (17 percent), then municipality of Al Da’ayen with 95 permits (16 percent).
The rest of the municipalities like Umm Slal 43 issued permits (7 percent), Al Khor 39 permits (7 percent), Al Shamal 17 permits (3 percent), and Al Sheehaniya 11 permits (2 percent).
In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 44 percent of the total building permits with 256 permits issued during the month of August, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 53 percent (303 permits) and fencing permits accounted for 3 percent with 18 permits.
“By analysing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas’ top the list accounting for 73 percent of all new residential buildings with 148 permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans by 19 percent with 38 permits and apartments buildings by 7 percent with 15 permits,” the PSA said in the release.
On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings accounting for 50 percent with 26 permits, followed by industrial buildings like workshops and factories accounting for 23 percent with 12 permits, then governmental buildings accounting for 15 percent with eight permits.
In a quick review of the data on building completion certificates issued during the month of August according to their geographical distribution, it was found that Al Wakrah municipality came at the top of the municipalities, where the number of building completion certificates issued, were 76 certificates, accounting for 27 percent of the total issued certificates, while the municipality of Al Rayyan came in second place with 75 certificates.
It was followed by municipality of Al Doha with 40 certificates (14 percent), Al Da’ayen municipality with 32 certificates (12 percent), Umm Slal 30 certificates (11 percent), Al Sheehaniya 10 certificates (4 percent), Al Khor 8 certificates (3 percent) and Al Shamal 6 certificates, accounting for 2 percent of the total.
