Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) has announced a month-long discount of 25 percent on all HBKU Press books from September 8 to 30 to coincide with the start of the new academic year for schools and International Literacy Day (ILD) which falls on September 8, 2020.
“As teachers and students all over Qatar begin the new academic year navigating the challenging parameters of online teaching and learning, HBKU Press is committed to providing the necessary support to promote literacy and to establish a love of reading and literature,” explains Mounir Slim, head of Finance and Publishing Services at HBKU Press.
“Through our outreach work with teachers and educators around Qatar, our latest available collections include a variety of quality supplemental educational resources in Arabic that can be used in parallel with online teaching and learning, including every day reading material for enjoyment as well.”
HBKU Press has a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction titles for children who range from pre-readers to young adults. Sub-genres available include classic children’s stories, educational materials, award-winning novels, history, fantasy, biography, sociology, philosophy, lifestyle, health and wellness, sports, and much more.
This HBKU Press initiative also aligns with this year’s International Literacy Day (ILD). Established in 1967, ILD reminds the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society.
ILD 2020 focuses on literacy teaching and learning in the COVID-19 crisis and beyond with a special evaluation of the role of educators and changing pedagogies. The theme will highlight literacy learning in a lifelong learning perspective. ILD 2020 is an opportunity to reflect on and discuss how innovative and effective pedagogies and teaching methodologies can be used in youth and adult literacy programmes at present and in the future.
“International Literacy Day 2020 explores the notion that learning never stops -- not as we grow older nor when we are faced with an adversity as monumental as a global pandemic,” continued Slim. “It is our hope at HBKU Press that by making our complete catalog of works available at a discounted rate, we can encourage people to continue investing in themselves as readers and learners despite any challenge.”
The discount applies to any HBKU Press books purchased through the Rafeeq and Snoonu applications (available to download from the Apple Store and Google Play) from September 8 to 30, 2020.
