THE public transport company Mowasalat (Karwa) has confirmed its readiness to operate public and school transport services with the beginning of the fourth phase of the gradual lifting of restrictions from Tuesday amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Mowasalat has readied 2,400 school buses to transport students as the new academic year starts with all the required precautionary and safety measures in place.
On this occasion, Mowasalat Chairman Eng Saad bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi said: “We are confident of our excellent capabilities to resume our services in line with the timing set by the State, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and other concerned authorities.”
He added: “Karwa is well-equipped to provide safe transportation for the passengers, while adhering to the precautionary measures in place to contain the spread of the virus in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Public Health and the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management in Qatar.”
Mohannadi said that Karwa ensures provision of the highest level of precautionary and safety measures in school buses as the schools are set to open today. “The safety of students is our top priority”, he remarked.
Mowasalat seeks to ensure safe transportation for passengers, through daily sanitisation of public transport buses, as well as conducting COVID-19 tests for all drivers and their daily temperature screening. In addition, the drivers must wear masks during trips.
Besides, the bus services will resume with 30 percent capacity to maintain social distancing among passengers. All the passengers also must wear masks, get their temperatures screened inside buses and at major bus stations, and ensure green status on ‘Ehteraz’ app before boarding the bus. Unaccompanied children under the age of 12 are not allowed to ride the bus, nor people with medical conditions or chronic illnesses.
Meanwhile, Mowasalat will also provide awareness leaflets and videos for the safety of students. The school supervisors have been entrusted with the task to maintain social distancing in buses.
Mowasalat has also facilitated electronic booking of tickets. Furthermore, it provides real-time information on daily routes of buses and facilitates booking through Karwa Taxi app and Karwa Bus app, which are available for Android and IOS.
