BeirutcTypeface:> Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Tuesday met with a number of senior Lebanese officials and discussed the ways to help Lebanon to overcome the challenges posed by the blast at Beirut port.
The foreign minister met with caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon Dr Hassan Diab. During the meeting, the FM expressed the condolences of the government and the people of Qatar on the victims of the explosion, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The caretaker PM thanked the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for Qatar’s solidarity and continuous support for Lebanon in all crises.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with Lebanon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Charbel Wehbe. The FM also held a discussion session with Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon Nabih Berri. He also met with Saad Hariri, the leader of the Future Movement party in Lebanon.
He also met with Grand Mufti of Lebanon Sheikh Abdul-Latif Derian, Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon (Banque du Liban) Riad Salame and Secretary-General of the Lebanese Red Cross George Kittana.
During the meetings, the Qatari foreign minister and the Lebanese leaders reviewed bilateral relations, the developments in Lebanon, Qatari assistance to support Lebanese people after the Beirut explosion and other issues of common concern.
The Lebanese leaders thanked the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for Qatar’s solidarity and continuous support for Lebanon at all times.
The FM later toured the site of the explosion at the Beirut port, where he was briefed on the extent of the losses in the port and the damages inflicted on the surrounding areas. (QNA)
