Barcelona have confirmed that an unnamed player has tested positive for the novel coronavirus ahead of pre-season training, but it will not affect their preparations for the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.
The Catalans said the player is isolating at home and is asymptomatic, and has not come into contact with any player due to travel to Lisbon for the Champions League last eight.
“Following tests conducted on Tuesday afternoon on the group of nine players due to begin pre-season today, one of them has tested positive for Covid-19,” Barcelona said in a statement on Wednesday.  “The player has no symptoms, is in good health and has been quarantined at his home.” Barca play Bayern Munich on Friday in a one-legged quarter-final, with the rest of the tournament in Lisbon following the same procedure because of the coronavirus.
Spanish football has been hit with a raft of positive cases recently. Atletico Madrid flew a day late for their Champions League quarter-final with RB Leipzig in Lisbon on Thursday after two players tested positive. Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko are in quarantine at home and tests on the rest of the squad were negative.
