Qatar has affirmed respect for Sudan’s sovereignty, political independence, unity and integrity of its region, non-interference in its internal affairs, and aspirations of the Sudanese people to live in a democratic country that enjoys security, stability, and prosperity.
This came as Qatar on Wednesday participated in the ministerial meeting of the Friends of Sudan Group, which was hosted in Saudi capital Riyadh, via video conference.
Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution HE Dr Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani represented Qatar in the meeting.
In a speech, Al Qahtani stressed that there is no military solution to conflicts. Dialogue and negotiations are only solution. He stressed on the importance of addressing the root causes of the conflict.
Qatar also reiterated its support for the ongoing mediation efforts in Juba, the capital of the Republic of South Sudan, aimed at achieving peace in Sudan. Qatar also praised the progress made by the mediation and expressed desire for more cooperation.
Qatar underlined the importance of not competing over Sudan, calling for unity, cooperation, and coordination of regional and international efforts to achieve sustainable peace.
