PARIS: France is to prolong an anti-coronavirus ban on gatherings of more than 5,000 people, due to expire on August 30, until the end of October, Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Tuesday. Castex warned that the coronavirus epidemic, which has cost more than 30,000 lives in France, was once again going “in the wrong direction,” with increasing infections.
The daily number of positive tests for the virus had risen from about 1,000 three weeks ago to about 2,000 now, the premier said on a visit to the main hospital in Montpellier. (DPA)
