On the second day of the Afghan grand assembly, the committees asked both sides of the conflict to observe an unconditional ceasefire ahead of intra-Afghan peace talks, said Abdullah Abdullah, head of the three-day assembly, on Saturday.
All of the 50 committees also supported the release of the remaining 400 Taliban prisoners, convicted for harsh crimes, said Abdullah, who’s also head of the national reconciliation council.
However, an official resolution on the release of the remaining Taliban prisoners would be announced on Sunday by the assembly.
The release of the remaining 400 Taliban prisoners would be the last obstacle ahead of the much-anticipated peace talks, Abdullah said.
The committees also called upon the government to strongly support the nearly two decades of achievements regarding women’s rights and freedom of the press, said Abdullah.
